“Clerion class reminders” is the text-message program of Clerion Inc. (“Clerion,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These terms apply if you turn it on, and they form part of our Terms of Service. How your mobile number is held, who receives it, and how it is deleted are set out in section 23 of our Privacy Policy.
Summary
- Optional. Texts are off unless you turn them on. Agreeing to receive them is not a condition of using Clerion.
- Up to 2 messages a day, between 9 AM and 8 PM in your time zone, besides a code you ask for and our replies to texts you send. Msg & data rates may apply.
- About your coursework only. Course and assignment names, never grades, and never advertising.
- Reply STOP to cancel at any time, and HELP for help.
- Your number is never shared for marketing, with any third party or affiliate.
1. Who can sign up
You may turn on texts if you have a Clerion account, you are 18 or older, and your mobile number is in the United States. Numbers outside the United States are not accepted.
Texts are optional. Every part of Clerion works without them, and agreeing to receive them is not a condition of using Clerion.
2. How you sign up
- In Clerion, open Settings → Notifications → Text messages and enter your mobile number.
- We text a one-time code to that number. Codes expire after a few minutes.
- Enter the code, tick the box beside the consent wording, and select Verify. The box is never ticked for you.
Proving your number with that wording on screen is your agreement to receive texts. We record which version of the wording you agreed to and when, as described in the Privacy Policy. The first text you receive after that is this confirmation, sent before your first reminder:
3. What we send
Texts carry the Clerion notifications you have switched on at Settings → Notifications, chosen from these five:
- Before class — preparation for tomorrow’s classes that is not in Canvas.
- Due tonight — Canvas work due soon that you have not submitted.
- Something changed — a date in one of your courses has moved.
- Not in Canvas — a test or major deadline on your syllabus that is not in Canvas.
- Marked missing — Canvas has marked a submission of yours missing.
Each text names the course and the assignment it is about, may give a date or time, and ends with a link that opens the item in Clerion. The link shows nothing until you sign in. Texts never include grades, and they never contain advertising or marketing. Once a month, when it fits, a text also ends with “Reply STOP to opt out”.
4. How often, and when
Up to 2 messages a day. The confirmation text counts toward that limit on the day it is sent. How many you receive depends on your coursework and on which notifications you have switched on, and on many days you receive none.
Between 9 AM and 8 PM in your time zone. We do not send notifications by text outside those hours. A notification that cannot go by text, because it falls outside those hours or would exceed the daily limit, goes to you another way you have switched on, such as email. If there is none, it is not sent. A notification is sent by one channel only, never by text and email both.
Two kinds of text fall outside these limits, because you prompt them: the one-time code you ask for when you add your number, and our reply when you text us, whether HELP, STOP, START or anything else. Those are sent straight away, at any hour, and do not count toward the daily limit.
5. Message and data rates
Msg & data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier may charge you for the texts you receive from Clerion and the texts you send to it, under the terms of your plan.
6. Stopping texts
- Reply STOP to any Clerion text. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE and OPTOUT work too, as does a message such as “stop texting me” or “please stop”. You receive one text confirming that you have opted out, and none after it.
- Remove your number at Settings → Notifications → Text messages. Texts stop, and the number is deleted from Clerion.
- Delete your account, which deletes your number with everything else, as described in section 7 of the Privacy Policy.
To receive texts again after replying STOP, reply START (or UNSTOP) to Clerion’s number. A STOP is honoured for the number itself, not only for your account: Clerion does not text a number that has replied STOP until START is sent from it.
7. Help
Reply HELP to any Clerion text, or email support@clerionai.com.
Texting Clerion’s number does not reach a person. A reply other than STOP, START or HELP receives one automatic answer pointing you to Clerion.
8. Delivery
Texts are delivered by your mobile carrier, through the messaging provider that sends them on our behalf, and delivery is not guaranteed. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Clerion’s texts are reminders, not the record of your courses. Canvas and your instructors remain the authority on what is due and when.
9. Your number
We do not share your mobile number or your text-message opt-in data with any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. They are used only to send you the texts described above. Your number is stored encrypted, and beyond the infrastructure that hosts Clerion it is disclosed only to Twilio, the messaging provider that delivers the texts on our behalf. Section 23 of our Privacy Policy sets out what is kept, for how long, and how it is deleted.
If you change or give up your number, remove it in Settings first, so that reminders meant for you do not reach whoever is given the number next.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms form part of our Terms of Service, and changes to them follow section 16 of those Terms. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page changes every time they do.
